PT FWD Insurance Indonesia (“FWD Insurance”) collaborates with Prestasi Junior Indonesia (“PJI”) to launch JA SparktheDream, a financial literacy education programme for young people. This programme targets to empower 1,500 students from 10 middle schools in Jakarta by December 2023 through building better money habits and teaching financial concepts, including budgeting, saving, spending, and protection. Students will then be better placed to make informed financial decisions at every life stage and be inspired to become their own agents of change in society.
This programme is aligned with Indonesia's National Financial Literacy Strategy for 2021-2025, while the Government of Indonesia is targeting to increase the financial inclusion index of Indonesian society to 90% by 2024. To achieve this goal, the government is continuously promoting the improvement of financial literacy, especially to students and youth as priority targets. The financial literacy index of Indonesia is currently at 49.68%.
Rudy Franto Manik, Chief Human Resources & Marketing Officer FWD Insurance, said, “Financial literacy serves as a basis for every individual to be able to take control of their financial future and live their dreams. The JA SparktheDream programme aims to help local communities and improve financial inclusion in Indonesia more broadly. Following the successful rollout in Hong Kong and Singapore last year, we’re excited to begin the collaboration with Prestasi Junior Indonesia to expand the programme to Indonesia.”
Robert Gardiner, Academic Advisor and Operations Counsel Prestasi Junior Indonesia, said, “Financial education at an early age is very important and will have a long-term positive impact. In addition to building skills, participation in this programme will instill a mindset to always cultivate healthy personal financial management throughout their lives. In fact, students are also trained to hone creativity, interpersonal skills, and sensitivity to financial problems in the communities they live in. Our sincere gratitude to FWD Insurance for supporting our mission to equip young Indonesians with the skills they need to be a financially capable and independent adult.”
The JA SparktheDream programme consists of four sessions which covers three aspects: financial awareness, financial capability, and economic and social inclusion. Students will develop their financial literacy through multifaceted experiences that combine financial management lessons led by business volunteers, interactive online learning platform, family activities, community engagement and a regional student exchange event.
At the end of the programme, students will work in teams to create social innovation ideas to promote the importance of financial health and bring positive change in society. The five outstanding teams will represent Indonesia to participate in the JA SparktheDream Social Challenge and to exchange their financial management learnings and creative social innovations with students from Hong Kong, Japan, the Philippines Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. The programme aims to support around 25,000 students and thousands more of their peers, in seven markets across the region by 2024. This year the programme will also be launched in Japan, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
