FWD Insurance launches FWD Mind Strength Support Programme to improve mental health among Indonesians

25 August 2023

PT FWD Insurance Indonesia (“FWD Insurance”) today introduced the FWD Mind Strength Support Programme (“FWD Mind Strength”) a first-in-the-market digital mental health solution provided by an Indonesian life insurer that is designed to enable Indonesians to proactively, privately and positively strengthen their minds.

This support programme is the result of development and collaboration between FWD Insurance and international digital mental health service providers. This support programme is accessible for everyone: customers and non-customers of FWD Insurance through fwd.co.id/mindstrength, whereas Indonesian now have the opportunity to get:

  • Mental health assessment in just a few minutes via Mind Strength Assessment: a simple and scientifically validated questionnaire. This assessment is developed by Koa Health, a digital mental healthcare provider. The assessment will reveal the Mind Strength score and show the options for the support needed to build the mind strength.

  • Talk with mind guidance expert, via Mind Guidance Sessions: confidential text-based coaching sessions with a mind guidance expert of their choice in their preferred language, through the ThoughtFullChat application. User can have multiple sessions for one-month free trial and accessible anywhere, anytime via mobile phone.

  • Learn how to strengthen mind through self-help materials provided on the FWD Mind Strength website, such as easy qigong meditation practice video guided by Vitayanti Wardoyo, a Bali Qigong Academy certified instructor from Hening Space. There are also articles about maintaining mental health available.

FWD Insurance plans to regularly enhance the FWD Mind Strength Support Programme with new innovative services and tools on an ongoing basis. The program will also be embedded in FWD Insurance’s products.

Desy Natalia Widjaya, Director FWD Insurance said, “Indonesians are increasingly aware of how important mental health is. This change began even before the pandemic. But due to the cultural and societal stigmas associated with mental health, society still hesitates to do more about it. FWD Insurance believes we had to do to things differently to get Indonesians to be more proactive about their mental health. This support programme aligns with our vision of changing the way people feel about insurance.”

Desy added, “Firstly, we reframed mental health through positive association. Then we introduced this free support programme to remove all barriers for people to access the support they need. Finally, we collaborated with mental health experts in Indonesia.”

This launch follows the release of FWD Group’s International Mental Health Survey in October 2022, which interviewed over 10,000 people in 16 international markets, including Indonesia. The survey found that 67% of Indonesian respondents believe mental health will be one of the most critical issues in the coming years, yet only one-third who is open to seeking external support preferring self-help instead.

Desy added, “Indonesia now joins Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia as the fourth market to introduce an offering around Mind Strength from FWD Group. This is an important initiative and one which we are confident will benefit not just our customers, but all Indonesians. This year also marks our 10th anniversary (1OxFWD), so we’re incredibly happy to celebrate it by providing the society, the means to strengthen their minds proactively, privately, and positively.”
